Random Connections
You might not think there’s anything strange to write about a London Advertising Directory. Unless, given some of my previous entries, you imagine it’s a directory advertising coffins and mummy hands. But no, just your run of the mill directory. But strangeness can be found anywhere if your mind is trained to have a weird way of thinking. Let me show you how it’s done…
First of all, I found it curious that so many of the categories in a directory for advertising are the same as I would expect to find in a filmmaking directory. (If you’re wondering why that would interest me, check out my blogroll… see that Film Blog? That would be mine.) A couple of examples: Audio & Video Services & Animation Agencies. See what I mean? Nice little coincidence, dontcha think. So maybe it’s not so much a thing that makes you go “huh?” as a thing that makes you go “hmm.”
If you’re still not feeling the weirdness, click on their Random Links option. It gave me links to a site called Whizzywig and one called Monkey Puzzle. I loved both names so I checked them out. Monkey Puzzle does storyboards… again, a film connection. And Whizzywig, well I just loved their image and their tagline: “A leap of imagination.” Because that’s all you really need to find weirdness in the everyday things around you… imagination.
Strange. Stranger. Strangeness.
I came across this article last night: Dr Fong is at it again – he says my mummy was a coke freak! It’s a tidbit linking to another article about Egyptian Mummies that had cocaine and tobacco in their lungs. What makes this so odd is that these plants are native to North and South America. So how did the Egyptians get them? Enquiring minds want to know. (I’m not really convinced by the flying saucer suggestion made in the article… LOL)
If you’re interested in other wondrous strange things, check out High Strangeness Altoona. You can definitely get a fix of strange there!
P.S. The title is an homage to the Donnie Darko tagline… just in case you were wondering.

Bizarre X-Rays
This X-ray is of a boy who swallowed magnetic pieces of a block one at a time. When they hit his stomach, apparently they reconnected.
I’m curious… assuming they had to operate to remove the block, do you think the surgical instruments ever got stuck to the magnetic pieces of the block?

Lint
Do you remember the Family Guy episode, “The King is Dead”? It featured an “experimental film” starring Diane Simmons, the news anchorwoman. The film was called “Lint”:
Well, someone did an amazingly accurate live action remake:

Will the Real Son of Adama Please Stand Up?
I just noticed in the Battlestar Galactica credits that the character of Hot Dog is played by Bodie James Olmos, son of Edward James Olmos who plays Admiral Adama. Cool!
When You’re Strange…
I just discovered this on You Tube: “We Are The Strange” Trailer. Think “Monsters, Inc” meets “The Nightmare before Christmas” inside of a retro Japanese videogame.
