8 Things
Chef Jules of Gourmet A Go-Go has tagged me! Following my Eight Things, you’ll see if I’ve tagged you!
Rules: Each person posts the rules before their list, then they list 8 things about themselves. At the end of the post, that person tags and links to 8 other people then visits those peoples sites and comments letting them know that they have been tagged, and to come read the post, so they know what they have to do.
My Eight Things:
1. I ran as a Green Party candidate in the 1990 provincial election in Ontario. I got a whopping total of 454 votes. The irony? That was the only year that I didn’t work for the NDP and that was the year that Bob Rae was elected Premier.
2. My friends describe me as an introvert with moments of insanity. Meaning that I can put on an extraverted persona when I’m with a bunch of people I don’t know and no one would ever realize that I’m really an introvert. Except for my friends, who then think I’ve just gone insane. Or I guess I should say, more insane.
3. I love the colour orange.
4. Both of my parents were actors. I rebelled by going into veterinary medicine. But now I’m a writer and an aspiring filmmaker, so I guess my rebellion didn’t last.
5. I watch a ridiculous number of makeover shows, both home makeovers and people makeovers. But I would hate having someone try to make me over. Which leads me to…
6. My natural hair colour is dark brown with more than a smattering of grey. It used to have auburn highlights before I started going grey in my early twenties. I currently colour it black with blue and raspberry highlights and one blonde streak in the front. Plus I dress too young for my age. Fortunately, no one can guess my real age so hopefully no one will call “What Not To Wear” on me.
7. I love to read. I’m not too picky about genre. Some favourite authors include: Jane Austen, Philip K. Dick, Jack Finney, Dick Francis, Stephen King, Madeleine L’Engle, George Orwell, Minette Walters and John Wyndham.
8. I’m currently writing a feature length screenplay. It’s a psychological drama about a vet student with a Superman fixation and a smattering of dysfunctional behaviour (not at all autobiographical, oh no!). My dream actress to play the lead is Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Hey, You!
Thanks for partaking. Having read [only] eight elements that comprise your persona I’d suggest a name change — compellinggrrl, creativegrrl, deepgrrl. Weird is not the adjective that came to mind!

Hey Kim… hope you have a good long weekend. Can’t wait to read your eight things!
LOL Jules… I initially came up with weirdgrrl as a title for my busines (WeiRDgrrl: Writing, Research & Design), but I liked it so much I opted to rename myself. But the name does do one task very well… it scares off the people who might think that the above eight things are actually weird. That way I never even have to deal with them!

That was a really interesting and well thought-out list of eight things.
Your personality description made me laugh (“introvert with moments of insanity”) and we share a love of makeovers! I am not so crazy about the home makeovers. But I adore the people makeovers. When I discovered What Not to Wear, I fell madly in love with the show and was desperate to be nominated for it. At the time, I really needed it.
Since a nomination was clearly not going to happen, I made myself over, bit by bit, just by watching the show and learning how to dress for my body shape (which is a regular body, albeit with a bit of the belly flab that follows childbirth, and a couple of other flaws I despise but apparently have to live with).
Your hair colour sounds FAB. Fab, I say! Sometimes I see women who appear to be proud of their grey, when in fact it’s really doing nothing at all for them. At times like that I want to grab them by the arm and tell them. But I don’t, of course. I saw a man at our “motel” complex yesterday who could use hair colour in a big way and look WAY sexier. But, as usual, I kept my thoughts to myself.
We both love to read. I have a few books you might be interested in. Whenever I read a book I think of who might like it after I’m done. So far, I’ve sent books to Thatgrrl in Toronto. If ever you have a shortage of books (something that fills me with dread) let me know and I’ll mail you a couple.
As for the meme itself, I recently did two of them (Five Things, Seven Things) and I’m thinking my family members/readers are probably a little tired of reading those lists about me. So I think I will respectfully beg off this particular meme.

Hey, thanks again for the tag. You’ve now got a reciprocal link, and I’ll pay it forward just as soon as I can track down some bloggers who haven’t already done the meme.
I also have an addiction to WNtW and other makeover shows, especially the cleaning ones like Clean Sweep. I consider it a healthy addiction, though; watching the latter usually inspires me to get off the couch and clean something. I gathered up a whole bag of clutter to dispose of during a marathon of Clean House the other day.

Hey lattégirl…
I totally understand about not wanting to wear out your readers with your memes. As for books, I’m always on the lookout for new books and/or authors, but I don’t think I’ve ever had a shortage of books (I do not understand that phrase, “shortage of books”, but the sound of it chills me to the marrow of my bones… lol). At the moment, I actually have a surplus of books for the amount of time that I have, but I’ll definitely let you know once my “to read” pile isn’t towering over my bedside table.
Aside from “What Not to Wear,” I think my favourite people makeover show is currently “Style by Jury.” Do you ever watch that one?
and jeanjeanie…
Have you ever watched “Neat”? It’s the show that inspires me to clean up my clutter. But I’ve made a promise to myself never to watch it after 11:00 p.m. One night, I started watching it around midnight and ended up cleaning out my bathroom clutter until 2:00 a.m.! Yikes!

Darn, I was going to tag ya.
L’Engle is my favorite author since I was a little girl.
See you around the net.
