Here I was, planning on having a relaxing summer writing my feature length screenplay for my screenwriting course and finishing up a bit of post-production on a few short films. But now my car’s been smashed and I’ve been dealing with an insurance nightmare and it looks like they won’t be paying up (and Calgary is NOT a transit friendly city), I’ve got two weddings to attend and another wedding where I’m the maid-of-honour, and my health has been going downhill fast. If I ever needed a vacation, it’s now.
Which is why I’m so beguiled by this Alegria site (apparently Alegria means joy in Spanish… I could use a little joy right about now; my own joy, not that of a newlywed couple that I’m not a part of). Anyway, this website is operated by NetReservas, a provider of online reservation system in “real time” to hotels in the Canary Islands. (Interestingly, the Canary Islands are not named after canaries but dogs… I kid you not. It’s from the Latin term Insularia Canaria, meaning Island of the Dogs… but I digress.)
So what does this website offer? For starters, you can obviously make a reservation with Alegria.com for hotels on any of the islands. But beyond that, it also provides a lot of great information (and tempting photos) about the various islands themselves. I’m not sure which island I see myself visiting first, but based on the photos I’m leaning towards La Gomera; the Garajonay National Park looks amazing and the whole island just sounds so wonderfully tranquil. So if you don’t hear from me for a while, you know where to look.
Have you ever had a lucid dream? I have. They’re amazing. Even better than my “movie dreams” (that’s what I call my dreams that actually make sense and have rather epic story lines). In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, lucid dreams are dreams in which you are aware that you are dreaming while the dream is in progress. In lucid dreams, it is often possible to exert conscious control over the dream characters and environment, as well as to perform otherwise physically impossible feats. Personally, my favourite thing to do in a lucid dream is fly, but I don’t limit myself to that. I mean, it’s a dream… by its very nature it should be limitless.
But I haven’t been having as many lucid dreams lately as I used to. I think it might be partly to do with the medication that I need to take to help me sleep these days. I’m not as in touch with my dreams as I used to be and I feel like it’s sapping my creativity. So, although I haven’t tried it yet, I am intrigued by this site that says it can help me rediscover lucid dreaming. The site’s author says that, over the years, he tried all the lucid dreaming tools out there. Some of them worked, some of them didn’t. So he’s put together the best of what he found with some of his own techniques and created a Lucid Dreaming Kit. And it has a money back guarantee. I’ve gotta admit that I’m tempted…
I now have three new niche blogs. Why create new blogs when you already seem to have problems keeping your current blogs up to date? You may be asking (or maybe not, but I’ll answer anyway). I’ve discovered that it’s a lot easier to keep up with them all if they’re all on the same blogging platform. (Sorry WordPress, but I think I’ve been a Blogger grrl for too long.) Plus, I think my game posts and my writing posts are not so interesting to my regular readers, so they seemed like naturals for a niche blog. And I write sooo much about music that I think it deserves a blog of its own!
Anyway, the new blogs are:
Check ’em out. Let me know what you think!
I’m building a new blog that will be going on my business domain (www.weirdgrrl.ca) and I’ve been taking it for a test drive. I still have a lot to decide (like platform…ugh) and I still have lots of tinkering to do with the design, but it’s here if you wanna take a sneak peek: Limes with Orange II.
That’s the tagline of WomanSavers.com, a website with the world’s largest database rating men both good and bad. I did a quick search. My sister’s ex-stalker is not in there, nor are the two men that I know for certain cheated on their wives or the one who liked to dish out the abuse—perhaps I should remedy that—but there are around 30 men in the database from Calgary, ranging from 0-116 in their ratings. Low numbers to be avoided like the plague, high numbers being the men you want to take home to meet the folks.
The site also has articles (like “Signs of Cheating Men“) and support forums, but the best part is the fun stuff. They have quizzes! I’m a quiz junkie… even if it did tell me that my expectations for a man are too high and that I would find fault with anyone… *sigh* (now I’m afraid to take the “Are you commitment Phobic?” quiz). And ecards and contests and games, oh my! (Their Match Game is surprisingly addictive and the Tarot Game… eerily accurate).
A site that is at once noble, informative and fun… sweet!
